What is SBEVSL?

SBEVSL is the acronym for a project entitled "Structural Biology Extensible Visualization Scripting Language". The long-term goal of our project is to enable structural biologists and educators who know the scripting language for one molecular visualization program to use that scripting language on other programs, without having to learn the scripting languages for those programs.

We have started out work with three popular molecular visualization programs that are either free or open source: PyMOL, Rasmol and Jmol. Our project consists of teams at Dowling College (led by Dr. Herbert Bernstein) and RIT (led by me - Dr. Paul Craig).

In future posts I will describe the details of our project. I am also learning how to use this blog, so I will add links to our web sites as I learn how to do that.
